The finish of a spray paint refers to how light reflects off the dried coating. The four most common industrial finishes are gloss, satin, matte, and textured. Each has distinct visual and functional properties that make it suitable for different applications. Gloss finishes are highly reflective and durable. Satin offers a mid-sheen compromise. Matte reduces glare and hides surface imperfections. Textured finishes add physical grip and hide substrate irregularities entirely.

Gloss finishes (typically 70-90+ gloss units at 60°) deliver maximum shine and depth of color. They are the easiest to clean because the smooth, hard surface resists dirt and grime. Gloss coatings also tend to have the best chemical and abrasion resistance. Common applications include automotive exterior parts (HT-004 Wheel Spray Paint), high-traffic industrial equipment, and consumer-facing products where visual appeal matters. However, gloss shows every surface defect, so substrate quality must be high.

Satin finishes (40-60 gloss units) are the most versatile and popular choice in industrial coatings. They offer good durability with a subtle sheen that hides minor surface imperfections. Many of our products — including HT-009 2K Polyurethane Topcoat and HT-027 High-Hardness Spray Paint — are available in satin by default. Matte finishes (5-15 gloss units) eliminate glare entirely, making them ideal for indoor applications, military equipment, and surfaces under direct lighting. Matte also hides scratches better over time.

Textured finishes create a rough surface pattern that provides grip and hides significant substrate flaws. HT-002 Stone Texture Spray Paint is a prime example — it creates a stone-like finish that conceals dents, welds, and uneven surfaces. Textured coatings are commonly used on tool handles, industrial machinery enclosures, automotive interior trim, and outdoor furniture. The texture also reduces slip hazards on walking surfaces and workbenches.
