A German distributor approached Huotian to launch a private-label aerosol line. From first inquiry to shipment: 90 days. The key factors were clear specifications, sample approval in one round, and transparent communication across time zones.
The Challenge
A mid-sized German company had been distributing industrial aerosols from European manufacturers for 15 years. Rising costs and supply chain pressure made them look for an alternative.
They needed: • A manufacturer who could match EU quality standards (REACH, CLP) • Private-label packaging with their brand design • MOQ that fit their trial run (3 SKUs, 5,000 cans each) • Delivery within 12 weeks for their seasonal product launch
They had approached three Chinese manufacturers before us. Two couldn't provide REACH documentation. The third had MOQ of 20,000+ cans per SKU.
Our Approach
When they reached out via our Alibaba storefront, we responded within 4 hours with a detailed proposal.
Step 1: Product matching. Based on their target applications (high-temperature coatings, anti-corrosion primer, clear topcoat), we matched three existing formulations — HT-001, HT-031, and HT-032 — with minor adjustments for EU compliance.
Step 2: Compliance documentation. Within one week, we provided: • REACH and CLP compliance certificates • Full MSDS in German and English • UN 1950 shipping classification • ISO 9001 quality certification
Step 3: Samples. We shipped 12 cans (4 per SKU) by express courier to Germany. They arrived in 5 business days. Their lab tested them against their existing European supplier's products. Results: our formulations met or exceeded performance in 6 of 7 test parameters.
Step 4: Label and packaging design. They sent their brand artwork. Our design team created can mock-ups within 3 days. After two rounds of revisions, the final design was approved.
The Results
• First contact to sample approval: 21 days • Production and packaging: 28 days • Sea freight Hamburg port: 35 days • Total time: 84 days (12 weeks, within the 12-week deadline)
Since launch, they have placed three re-orders and expanded from 3 to 7 SKUs. Their cost per unit decreased by approximately 35% compared to their previous European supplier, while maintaining comparable quality.
The relationship continues to grow. We now hold quarterly video calls to review product performance and discuss new formulations.
Lessons Learned
1. Speed matters. Our 4-hour first response time set the tone for the entire partnership. 2. Documentation is a competitive advantage. Having REACH and CLP ready before being asked closed the deal. 3. Samples build trust. Providing free samples with fast shipping demonstrated confidence in our product quality. 4. Language is not a barrier. Clear English communication and German-language documentation eliminated misunderstandings. 5. Start small, grow together. Lower MOQ for the first order built trust. Expansion came naturally.
